Process of Disclosing Cases of Compulsory or Forced Labour and Identifying Victims to Be Improved

With the adoption of the legislative package, in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution, the 29 Convention of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms adopted by the Council of Europe, the term “compulsory or forced labour”, the scope of work that is not considered such work will be defined in the Code, the term of compulsory or forced labour will be adjusted in the RA Criminal Code, which entered into force from July 1, 2022, as well as in the Law on Human Trafficking and Identification of and Support to Persons Subjected to Trafficking in Human Beings and Exploitation from the point of view of ensuring unity. As a result, the process of disclosing cases of compulsory or forced labour and identifying victims will be improved.

The package of draft laws authored by the Government on Making Addenda to the RA Labor Code, on Making Addendum to the RA Criminal Code and on Making Addendum to the Law on Human Trafficking and Identification of and Support to Persons Subjected to Trafficking in Human Beings and Exploitation was debated in the second reading at the NA regular sitting convened on October 4.

The key rapporteur, the RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ruben Sargsyan informed that editorial amendments were made after the adoption in the first reading.

The member of the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs Lilit Stepanyan presented the endorsement of the Committee.
